Portfolio models are of great benefit for planning for the marketing strategy, though only where all risks are known (Metaxas, 2005). The aim of marketing programs is to ensure that the practical realization of the marketing strategies adopted. Key Points for the Defense of American Exceptionalism Essay American Exceptionalism is the idea that America is founded on a creed. That creed is to spread liberty, freedom, and democracy to the rest of the world. G.K. Chesterton stated, â€Å"America is the only nation in the world that is founded on a creed.† The creed he mentions is stated in the Declaration of Independence. In the preamble, it is said that, â€Å"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. † In saying this, we affirm that everyone should be treated equally with all of their basic rights. However many countries in the world do not support this view. We, as citizens of the United States of America, are to spread this ideal throughout the world. Many Americans support this theory of American Exceptionalism by fighting for America, supporting or working for the American government, or just going out into the world to underprivileged, developing nations as an American. American Exceptionalism is still thriving today and has throughout the history of America. As Seymour Martin Lipset states in his book, American Exceptionalism: A Double Edged Sword, America is not like the other European nations that our Founding Fathers came from. He states that if you are a Frenchman, it is not because you believe in French values; it is because you live in France. You are American by believing in American values. You can’t be un-French, un-British, or un-German just because y ou don’t agree with what the nation stands for. However, you can be un-American by not believing in American values or what America stands for. This sets America apart from other nations. America has a national identity. We have a common set of values and beliefs unlike any other nation in the world. These values and beliefs are at the very core of American Exceptionalism. These are that America should be a light to the world. America has a duty, and this duty is to spread freedom and liberty to the oppressed, the poor, the mislead, and the entire world. It is these values that have driven America to take some of the actions it has in its  past. For example, America decided to intervene in the Vietnam and Korean wars. In both cases America intervened to stop the spread of Communism. In The Limits of Power by Andrew J. Eacezich, he argues that the governement is using the idea of American Exceptionalism to cover their own agenda. He says that American Exceptionalism is a false ideal created by the government to get people to go along with the wars supported by the government. The reason that this is a incorrect theory, is that American Exceptionalism was created by the people, not the government. The people believe in American Exceptionalism because they know that it is true and that it exists. If there was no support for American Exceptionalism, then there would be know way that we would still be able to have our troops in the Middle East. American Exceptionalism one of the reasons that we went over and it is the sole reason that we have been able to stay over there without a major outcry from the general public. Most people think about American Exceptionalism being through wars and conquest, however it has a peaceful aspect to it also. For example, the United States Navy has two hospital ships that sail around the world to provide comfort and relief to developing nations and nations in need around the world. They currently have two hospital ships in service, the USNS Comfort and the USNS Mercy. These ships provide relief to people who are desperate for medical attention. These are people in places that would likely not be able to aquire medical treatment if not for these ships. They treat everything from minor bacterial infections, to life-threatening tumors growing inside of people. The United States also runs multiple other programs around the world to help with relief and support. For example, the United States has multiple relief programs in Africa for refugees. The refugees come from countries where there is civil war tearing apart their communites. They are forced to flee for their saftey, their freedom, and even their lives. The United States helps support refugee camps throughout the world so these people can return to their former lives as soon as possible. However, American Exceptionalism is not limited to just actions of the government. The American people are also spreading the creed of liberty, freedom, and democracy. For example, the American government is not the only source of  supplies for African refugees. The Red Cross is also a huge source of supplies for refugees. They accept donations to buy massive quantities of relief foods and other supplies to help people around the world. The Red Cross also provides relief for people affected by natural disasters. An example of this would be the tsunami that affected most of the countries on the Indian Ocean in 2004. Another one would be when the tsunami hit in Japan 2011 and caused the nuclear leaks along with the regular affects. In both of these cases American citizens sent support to the rest of the world through donations and direct volunteering for the Red Cross. Americans also go on many mission trips throughout the world. These people are usually on missions for churches to spread their religion with people in other countries. However, while they are over there, they also typically help improve the quality of life for the natives as much as they can. This involves building schools, washing them, and many other things like it. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, the United States saw a big surge in immigration from other countries. Many people decided to come to the United States because they heard about how great it was. They would come on huge ships from Europe and be greeted by the Statue of Liberty when they arrived. If American Exceptionalism did not exist, then what reason did they immigrants have for taking the dangerous journey across the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans in a rickety ship? When the immigrants arrived, there were some cases where they were treated rudely, but for the most part, the immigrants were accepted into the society. Most people went into the society and mixed right in. This is the reason that America is called the â€Å"mixing pot of the world.† These reasons show ho w American Exceptionalism is still here today. There are many supporting details that show how American Exceptionalism does exist and that the age of American Exceptionalism is not over. Medusa. On top of Mt Olympus, the body of Zeus was found, and he was murdered. There were three clues that at the scene of the crime: a feather, an olive branch and a broken string from a lyre, and someone had stolen Zeus's thunderbolt. As a detective, I am here to prove that medusa did not commit such crime. Medusa can easily be charge of this crime, but she did not kill Zeus. She is very much innocent. Before Medusa was this ugly creature "monstrous" (Adams 283). She was very beautiful. Her hair was her chief glory ("Medusa"). Medusa has two more other sibling and together they were name "Gorgon" (Adams 283). Medusa could get any man that she wanted because she was the most beautiful one of all. Her mother and father were "Phorkys" and "Keto" ("Medusa"). "Medusa was the only mortal out the three. She lived in the north where no one visits"("Medusa"). Medusa did not have any friend. A terrible monster, Medusa, (The Greek Creatures) ask Athena for permission to visit the south, so that she could see the sun. Athena refused because she thought Medusa was trying to take her man. So then, Athena sent perseus to kill her. Medusa was one creature that turn living thing into stone because Athena put a spell on her. Perseus then killed her. He cut her head off and gave it to Athena because he was in her favor to kill her. Medusa is not apart of any of the information that was found at the scene of the crime. Another reason being is that Cronus is the father of Zeus and he had a problem. Cronus had six children, and when they were newborns, he ate them all except Zeus because his wife tricked him into eating a rock ("Cronus"). I think he regrets not eating Zeus because he became a powerful god, so he decides to kill him, and left behind odd evidences that will not point back at him. JCPenny has just launched its new marketing strategy on Feb 1, 2012, which include improving its brands, refreshing its new stores, and the most important part—the new pricing model. The new pricing model is so called â€Å"Fair and Square† pricing strategy. This new pricing strategy includes three parts. The first one is â€Å"everyday† regular pricing, which is about 40% off 2011’s retail price without discount or promotion. The second one is the â€Å"month-long value† pricing, which offers even better price on specific merchandise. The final one is the â€Å"best price† pricing, which are clearance deals on the first and third Fridays of each month. In my point of view, I think JCPenny’s new marketing strategy is necessary for their further development in such tough competitive environment. According to Martis-Olivo, a retail analyst for Thomson Reuters, JCPennt’s sale performance is poor compared to Macy’s in 2011. Although Macy’s offers less discount and promotion, it posted a much stronger same-store sales average. Consumers now think department stores usually offering items at high prices, then offering discounts or coupons, so use such discount or coupon promotion to attract sales is not as much efficient as before. Furthermore, internet sales are jump up significantly in recent years due to the lower price and more convenience. So JCPenny’s new marketing strategy is launched in time to tackle these challenges. The â€Å"everyday† pricing is about 40% off 2011’s retail price without discount or promotion, which will give the consumers better value products to increase the chances that consumers will visit more and purchase more because of the lower prices. JCPenny’s new marketing strategy actually coincides with the marketing mix, which we usually called 4 Ps: Price, Promotion, Product and Place. As we discussed above, the important role of the JCPenny new marketing strategy is the new pricing model, which give the lower everyday price and month-long values to the consumers. So their new pricing position is focusing on better price-value relationship. Also, they hold promotion on the first and third Fridays of each month, which is the new name for clearance, or the lowest price you’ll ever see for a particular item. Secondly, brands are actually the products to department stores like JCPenny. The improvement of brands is refer to improve their products, as Wahlstrom described, J. C.  Penney has put its focus on fewer, â€Å"more relevant† brands, and less on private brands that are â€Å"less efficient,† such as Arizona and Worthington. These will provide consumer with quality instead of quantity. The final P is referring place, as we mention at the beginning, JCPenny is refreshing its new stores, which may give consumers more convenient accessibility. Furthermore, the new marketing strategy is also coincides with what we just learned from the class– Acquiring & Retaining customers. The lower price is to change consumers’ perceived cost and then will change the perceived value. The lower price acquiring new customers and retain customers to come to the store more frequently. Also, new brand marketing is to improve their products and service, which change the perceived benefits and again will change the perceived value, and change the customers’ preference. These combinations of quality, service and price are called â€Å"customer value triad, as value increases with quality and service and decreases with price. These aim to coagulate JCPenney’s relationship with its loyal customers and attract new ones.

Millennials Future Essay

Lets face it the way Americas economy is looking right now the job market is in the dumpster. Millennials are working harder then ever to try and stand out from the rest of their peers so they can land a good job to support them on their own. This is putting millennials in between a rock and a hard place. In these day and age it’s almost required to have a college degree to have any chance of landing a good job to support you on your own. But these degrees come at a price and as the job market is failing and loans are pilling up on are college graduates. This bad economy is crushing the millennial generation and their futures. Millennials also know as generation Y, are people born from 1980s to the 2000s. They’re the first generation to be raised using digital technology, social media, and mass media. People born in this generation are now college students, and college graduates that are struggling in this tough economy. The millennial generation has limitless information at the tip of there fingers. Millennial are â€Å"always connected† with social networks like facebook and twitter they always know what friends are doing. People have said millennials are parent dependent and don’t know what reasonability is, which I think could go either way. Some millennials are very parent dependent but I see others very independent going to school and working without the guidance of parents. Its unfair to generalize millenials as slackers that don’t know how to work for something, it all depend on the person. Previous generations were able to go colleges get a degree and start working and living on their own immediately after graduation. â€Å"Not so long ago, the average American man in his 20s had achieved most of the milestones of adulthood: a high-school diploma, financial independent, marriage and children.† (Hymowitz 477). â€Å"In 1970, just 16 percent of Americans ages 25 to 29 had never been married: today that’s true of an astonishing 55 percent of the age group.† (Hymowitz 477). The way millennials are living there lives are different from other generations most because aren’t thinking about marriage or kids there more focused on there finical future. Millennials could be one of the first generations that will not achieve the same stander  of living that their parents did. The Institute for College Access & Success says that the average borrower from student loans owes about 27,000 dollars upon graduation. So when millennials graduate they already are in debt 27,000 dollars with interest rates. With the decrease in jobs millennials are graduating with this debt and no way to pay it back. â€Å"Research shows that young people who graduate from college in a dismal economy typically suffer long-term consequences, with effects on their careers and earnings which linger for about 15 years.†(Demirdjian). Some colleges are starting to be run like businesses, which is really destroying America’s education system. For-profit colleges like university of phoenix spend 20 to 25 percent on advertising and 10 to 20 percent on teaching. Which means their spending more money to try and get you to the college then, the service th ey are providing you. These for-profit schools attract millennials because of there flexible class schedule, online classes, and easy enrollment. But the debt load in student loans for for-profit colleges are nearly double the average debt, for-profit schools have graduation debts that about 32,000 dollars with interest rates. For-profit students are only 10% of are student population but they use 25% federal finical aid and they default 47% of student loans in America, which is from Senator Tom Harkin report. â€Å"The report finds that 62.9 percent of students who enrolled in an associate degree program at a for-profit college in the 2008-09 school year left before earning a degree, and that the median student lasted only four months.†(Haynes). They are killing the value of and education and millennials are paying the price. Millennials are going to suffer the worse from the economy. Millennials were told there hold life education was key to succeed and now it’s failing them. After gradation millennials are stuck dragging around these loans for years. Even if the economy does turn around to many millennials are already in debt over their heads. Millennials are going to have to work harder than ever to land good jobs but, I do see millennials succeeding later in their lives when the economy turns around because of the hard work ethic they are learning in there early adulthood years. How I can prove this is I’ve come to realize that I need to do my work in order to succeed. Usually im a slacker, someone who puts schoolwork second on there things to do list. This thinking felt right to me and I was pretty careless. Well as a result of that I wasn’t performing to my potential academically. I would say im a pretty average student and maybe even a little more than average but I want more than that. Ive been trying to set my goals higher than originally. My social life now comes second and doing my work is now one of my top priorities most of the time. My mother has always told me friends wont be on your college application, and well whatever that means but its true my so called friends aren’t going to help me succeed in life. Its me who needs to make that decision how I am going to make it in this world. Succeeding in high school is just one of many major keys that I need to perfect in order to be successful in the future. My reading skills are the same but im starting to realize the real meaning of reading a book. Past years reading for me was scanning my eyes through a hundred pages and not getting the concept of the book and I relied on my peers who did read to fill me in on what each chapter was about. The odyssey was a very wonderful introduction for me into the world of reading books. I actually enjoyed reading the hardship of what Odysseus went through and what he did to survive just to get back to his home Ithaca. I hate reading long novels, its just something I don’t like doing one bit but I had to read this book in order to anser the millions of question Mrs. Philips would assign. So I sat and sat and sat and read till my head was to tired to think and I would say it was worth it because it helped my grade and reading books isn’t something that I don’t hate entirely anymore. Grammar EEK! what a horrible subject. I personally don’t like doing grammar. My attitude towards grammar is I can wright the English language and I can talk it so in that case I’ve pretty much mastered it. Renea seriously you’re an idiot I finally had to say to myself as I discovered that there was so much more than that I had to accomplish before I could actually think that I had mastered a language. When I walked into the classroom and got tied up with tons and tons of grammar worksheets I was shocked. What is the point of doing all this work? why why why? I would ask myself but I took a look at them once and a while and realized that when I write I don’t evan think about adverbs or clauses or even all those parts of speech. I still don’t understand some of it but I’ve learned many new things just by practicing with all those good old work sheets. At first I thought Mrs. Philips would just assign them to us to torture our adolescent brainl ess minds but now I realize that she did it for our own good I suppose. A weekly vocabulary list helped me understand many words in our dictionary that I wouldn’t of known if I hadn’t taken this class. Weekly spelling lists also benefitted me because I am truly a horrible speller. My ability to do research has grown immensely. The Alexander the Great project that I chose to do for our Almost term paper helped me learn how to do citations, parenthetical citations, and research my topic from using big giant boring books instead if copying and pasting from internet sites on the web. I am the same person as I was when I first walked into this class I’ve just learned to ditch the social scene once and a while and hit the books for once and I give all thanks to Mrs. Philips for that because the work and her teaching abilities have forced me to do so. The style of the tests and quizzes were interesting. Some would be hard and some would be easy. Some made me study the night before and others were just a price of cake and I could do it from memory. I think Mrs. Philips gave us all some slack many of times. I probably took a little advantage of her teaching styles evan though I didn’t realize it. I could be a careless student or an organized student. I turned a lot of things in late because I knew that she wouldn’t give me zeros but I never failed to not do my assignments. Mrs. Philips is a great teacher. She told our class that in order to be a good teacher you have to repeat yourself a lot to give the kids an understanding. This is true and many of the times she did. I get unfocused and there’s Mrs. Philips snapping her fingers at me telling me to focus. I love it when teachers are like that because it actually shows me that they want you to succeed and want u to get the information into the students head. Sh e was a funny teacher she made me laugh and I haven’t had many teachers like that. She got the point across to me and evan used enthusiasm as a strategy to get it across to her students. She would make fun of me sometimes but I never ever took it personally because maybe she wasn’t kidding but she would only speak the truth. I am honored to have the Great Goddess Griggs ( G.G.G. an acronym which she taught me) as my 9th grade teacher she’s a wonderful teacher! a spectacular teacher and I hope that I have her again in the future. What shall I do with the four million dollars and the old broken-down mansion my long lost relative has left me? Well I will give 1,000,000.00 dollars away to a charity. The charity that will receive this hunk of money will be none other than The Make a Wish Foundation. This foundation is for kids who are going to die and before they do they are told to make a wish and whatever they wish for will happen but these things can only happen if the foundation is supported. So I have made a decision to help out those helpless boys and girls and make them smile once more by donating this money. My next mission with this money is to renovate this mansion. Its in a rather horrid state but I find it rather enchanting. I have estimated a total of one million dollars will be spent in the process of making this estate a beautiful mansion which it longs to be. My next decision on what to do with the money is to go on a vacation!. Tour the world is what I long to do. I will bring my husband and our two kids on a year trip to enjoy the wonders of the world. From Paris to China and all the way to Peru is where you will find us and this vacation will approximately cost 250,000 dollars. The rest of the money will be put in banks and gain interest through the years and my family and I will live on the money and never have to work again.
